Role Overview
Mercor is partnering with leading AI labs to engage experienced insurance professionals — underwriters, actuaries, claims specialists, and agents — to improve AI systems' reasoning around risk assessment, policy evaluation, and claims processing. Contributors will apply their expertise in areas such as commercial and personal lines underwriting, actuarial analysis, regulatory compliance, and loss adjustment to evaluate and enhance AI performance on insurance-specific tasks. This is a project-based opportunity with potential for ongoing engagement depending on performance and project needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and evaluate AI-generated outputs related to policy language interpretation, risk classification, claims adjudication, and actuarial projections
- Create realistic scenarios based on insurance workflows — underwriting submissions, claims investigations, coverage disputes, rate filings, and regulatory examinations
- Annotate, label, and validate data across insurance use cases (e.g., loss reserving, fraud detection, policy coverage analysis)
- Provide structured feedback on AI accuracy in areas such as insurance regulations (state DOI requirements, NAIC guidelines), actuarial standards, and industry-specific terminology
- Collaborate asynchronously with research teams to refine evaluation frameworks for insurance-domain AI
Ideal Qualifications
- 3+ years of professional experience at an insurance carrier, brokerage, reinsurer, or regulatory body
- Background in one or more areas such as:
- Underwriting (commercial, personal, specialty lines)
- Claims management (property, casualty, liability, workers' comp)
- Actuarial science (pricing, reserving, capital modeling)
- Insurance sales or brokerage (P&C, life, health, benefits)
- Compliance, regulatory affairs, or risk management
- Professional designations a plus (CPCU, ARM, FCAS, FSA, AIC)
- Strong analytical thinking and ability to translate insurance workflows into structured evaluation tasks
- Clear written communication and attention to detail
Compensation Note
This project is expected to begin on an effective hourly rate, but will transition to a model where experts are compensated based on throughput of quality work rather than a flat accruing hourly rate.
