You must set up your payment method on the CrowdGen platform, even if you previously had one on Appen Connect.

Appen/CrowdGen work is project-based with structured workflows:

• Project assignment: You apply to projects that match your profile. Once accepted, you receive detailed guidelines and training materials
• Task types: Search relevance evaluation, content moderation, audio transcription, linguistic data collection, map and location tasks, social media evaluation, and AI model assessment
• Scheduled work: Some projects have set weekly hour requirements (e.g., 10–20 hrs/week). Others are more flexible
• Hour tracking: You track and self-report hours. Some projects use system-generated time tracking. Hours must be submitted by the 4th of each month
• Project lifecycle: Projects can last weeks to months. When a project ends, you need to apply for new ones — there's no guaranteed continuous work

The work is structured and predictable once you're in a project. The biggest frustration is the gap between projects and the monthly payment cycle.

Appen's pay varies significantly by project and region:

• Basic annotation and evaluation: $5–12/hr — common for entry-level projects
• Search evaluation and content moderation: $12–20/hr — the bread-and-butter project types
• Linguistic and translation work: $15–25+/hr — higher rates for rare languages
• Typical monthly income: $200–800 for one project at 10–20 hrs/week

Payment timing matters: Monthly payments mean you might work all of January but not see the money until mid-February. Budget accordingly if Appen is a significant income source.
